A MAN from Rhyl has been jailed after his suspended sentence was activated due to him not adhering to its terms.

Terry Bownass-Lyons, 53, of Meredith Crescent, was sentenced to 20 weeks’ imprisonment at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 3.

He had denied, on July 31, a charge of failing to comply with his suspended sentence, but was found guilty after trial on September 28.

The court had heard that, on May 4, 2022, Bownass-Lyons’ 20-week jail term was suspended for 18 months.

Included as part of this suspended sentence order was unpaid work and a “building better relationships” programme.

But Bownass-Lyons was accused of breaching his order when he failed to attend a planned “building better relationships” programme appointment on June 15 without reasonable excuse.

A warrant had been executed for Bownass-Lyons’ arrest after he failed to attend court on October 3, the day he was initially due to be sentenced.

He had also previously denied missing an unpaid work appointment on February 15.

Bownass-Lyons had also pleaded not guilty to failing to notify the probation service of his change of address, after Denbighshire County Council ended its duty to accommodate him.

This offence was later withdrawn.
