A MAN from Kinmel Bay is to pay more than £1,000 after he obstructed and assaulted a police officer in Rhyl.

Stephen Cooper, 20, of Berwyn Crescent, admitted the following charges at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on April 15:

  • Obstructing/resisting a constable.
  • Common assault of an emergency worker.
  • Using threatening behaviour.

The court heard that, on December 23, 2023 on Market Street, Rhyl, Cooper exhibited threatening behaviour, and assaulted and obstructed Police Constable Smith.

For the charge of common assault, Cooper was ordered to pay £100 in compensation, £692 as a fine, a £277 surcharge, and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

This amounted to a total payment of £1,154, to be paid in monthly instalments of £200 from May 14.

No separate penalties were imposed in respect of the other two charges Cooper admitted.
