A POPULAR pub in Meliden has a new look and new landlords at the helm.

The Miners Arms, on Ffordd Talargoch, is described by its owners, community pub group Admiral Taverns, as a “striking pub on the outskirts of Prestatyn”.

Husband and wife Christopher and Megan Dean, of Deans Inns Ltd, took over the pub on September 6, 2023, and have since redecorated the premises.

The couple moved from Derby to run the pub.

Megan has more than 12 years’ experience of working in pubs, starting at 16 as a port washer, then a waitress, working up to being a manager in bars and hotels

Christopher started as a chef aged 17 in London, moved to Derby to go to university, and worked his way up to head chef at a large sports bar and grill in the city.

He has worked many jobs in the bar trade, from being a licenced doorman, DJ, chef and barman.

"We moved over here as we had our honeymoon in North Wales and love the area," Christopher said.

"We always wanted to run and have our own pub. We have redecorated the whole pub inside, and are awaiting an external refurbishment as well in the future.

"We will be reopening the kitchen in the coming weeks ready for the summer, and are revamping the external rear beer garden, as well.

"We are looking at opening a second pub soon, while staying here at The Miners and building the Dean Inns Ltd business."

The pub hosts Meliden FC on weekends, and holds monthly karaoke, open mic and charity nights.

Pub quizzes are also to set to return soon.

Christopher added: "We have a great team, with our general manager Emma, and with our part-time staff who are always welcoming.

"We are also dog-friendly, with treats always on the bar for them."

Based in Chester, Admiral Taverns runs more than 1,600 predominantly wet-led community pubs.
