AN EMPTY unit at a shopping park in Rhyl is “under offer”, following planning approval granted for pizza chain Papa John’s to take on the premises.

In March, it was confirmed that units 10 and 11 at the town’s Marina Quay Shopping Park will be filled by two fast food companies.

Last August, an application from Papa Johns to make “minor external alterations to the shopfront, side and rear elevations” of unit 10 was approved by Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee.

Popular chicken franchise Pepe’s Piri Piri opened at unit 11 on Saturday (November 11).

Unit 10 remains vacant for the time being with a “retail/takeaway unit to let” sign in its window, as well as logos for property consultancy companies, Lyons Thompson Letts and Rawstron Johnson.

When contacted by the Journal, a Lyons Thompson Letts spokesperson said yesterday (November 14): “We have the unit under offer and expecting to complete the lease over the next few weeks.”

The spokesperson could not confirm if this offer has come from Papa John’s, though.

Extracts from the approved planning application read: “The proposed external alterations will bring a vacant unit into use and stimulate economic activity within the retail park, helping to drive footfall.

“Internally, whilst not part of this application, it is noted that the unit will undergo a full fit-out to facilitate the pizza delivery operation.”

Multi-award-winning contractor Cardon Property & Construction started internal refurbishment works on units 10 and 11 in March, with a project value of circa £200,000.
