A PUB in Abergele will temporarily close so that refurbishment works can be carried out.

The George & Dragon, on Market Street, will close from November 20-25 while it has a “makeover”.

It re-opened under a new landlady earlier this year.

A statement from The George & Dragon read: “We are so excited to finally confirm that the pub will be having a makeover.

“That unfortunately means we will have to close for four days and nights, but don't worry - we will be back.

“(I) can't wait for you to see it once it has been completed; I'm sure you will be pleased!”

The George & Dragon initially closed in early 2023 after Lee Murphy, who had been responsible for the pub for nearly 11 years, decided not to renew its contract with Star Pubs & Bars.

But after re-opening briefly under temporary managed, it welcomed back customers officially on June 2 after being taken on by new landlady, Michelle Partington.

In a further statement, the pub added: “I just want to thank all of our customers for supporting us from when we took over. Almost six months in and going strong, thanks to you all.

“None of this could happen without our lovely community. (I’m) proud of the small team of amazing staff here. They have worked so hard despite challenges and I love them.

“I cannot wait for you to see us opening following the refurbishment.”

In 2019, The George & Dragon was named the best community pub in the Conwy district, and in 2017, won the gold prize for community pub at the Best Bar None awards.

The pub is also offering military veterans a free pint on Remembrance Sunday (November 12).

Ms Partington is a veteran herself, having served in the RAF for 23 years, and completed numerous tours on the frontline as a medic before being discharged.
