THE Rhyl-based actor, Spencer Wilding, is to feature alongside the likes of Kevin Bacon and Peter Dinklage in a new remake of the 1984 film “The Toxic Avenger”.

Spencer, who starred as Darth Vader in Star Wars Rogue One and played various roles in three Harry Potter films, will play “Monster Garbinger” in the film, according to IMDb.

It premiered as the opening film of the “Fantastic Fest” festival in Texas yesterday (September 21) .

Spencer Wilding defends Rhyl after being named UK’s worst seaside town

The film follows the story of Winston Gooze (Dinklage), a janitor at Garb-X health club who is diagnosed with a terminal illness that can only be cured by an expensive treatment that his employer refuses to pay for.

But after deciding to rob his company, Winston falls into a pit of toxic waste and is transformed into a deformed monster who sets out to do good, and take revenge on those who have wronged him.

Spencer, 51, said he made “wicked memories” from shooting the film, and said it “shouldn’t be too long” before it is released in cinemas.

He said: “We filmed it in Bulgaria before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was awesome; I was on set for about 12 weeks.

“It was a great production, and the Bulgarians are lovely people; they really bring you in as family.

“I’m very thankful, too, for the ongoing support from Rhyl. I’m still flying the flag for Rhyl, and for North Wales.”

Spencer also featured in the fantasy action film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, released earlier this year.

He launched a staunch defence of Rhyl in March after The Telegraph had named it Britain’s worst seaside town, describing the town’s beach as “one of the nicest beaches out there on the North Wales coast in my eyes, for sure”.
