THE Rhyl-based actor, Spencer Wilding, has showed his support for the town after it was rated the worst seaside resort in the UK by a national newspaper.

On March 17, The Telegraph ranked Britain’s 20 best and worst seaside towns, with Rhyl propping up the list, scoring five out of a possible 100 in its gentrification index.

It added: "Rhyl –  once unfortunately dubbed the 'Costa del Dole' and, on one occasion, 'Blackpool after a neutron bomb' – is how not to do things."

Spencer, who starred as Darth Vader in Star Wars Rogue One played various roles in the Harry Potter series, and features in the new Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film, has since leapt to the town’s defence.

During a run on Rhyl Beach, he said: “(You) can’t beat a good run along Rhyl Beach.

“Our little town has been knocked about with negative posts lately… OK, the town is a little tired, but what seaside town isn’t?

“And if you fancy a little break away to our little town, a nice walk or a short drive (and) you’re in the beautiful countryside, with lovely walks, and it costs nothing.”

In a separate post, he said of Rhyl Beach: “(It is) one of the nicest beaches out there on the North Wales coast in my eyes, for sure.

“But who am I to say? I’ve only lived in North Wales all my life!”

His first film of 2023, sci-fi horror film “The Devil Conspiracy”, was released in January, and saw Spencer play the “Beast of the Ground”.

Spencer is also due to star in “The Toxic Avenger”, alongside the likes of Peter Dinklage and Kevin Bacon, in a reboot of the 1984 film of the same name.

He spent roughly 12 weeks in Bulgaria filming it, while Spencer will also appear in the upcoming “Borderlands” film.

St Ives was rated as the best seaside town in the UK by The Telegraph, scoring 98 out of 100.
