A FUNDRAISER based in Rhyl is to complete a walk of one of the paths of Snowdon dressed in a teddy bear costume, along with a man wearing little else but speedos, for charity.

Richard Kendrick, who works for the charity The Big Help Project, and has also raised thousands for the Royal British Legion and North Wales Superkids, will walk Snowdon’s Llanberis Path with “Speedo Mick” on Saturday, February 18.

It is part of Speedo Mick (real name Michael Cullen)’s aim to raise £200,000 by walking 1,000 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End.

He has so far gathered more than £112,000 in donations, in what will be his last charity walk before hanging up his speedos.

Speedo Mick is scaling the three peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) as part of his challenge in just his trademark Everton speedos, having raised thousands for charities through similar walks in the last few years.

Richard said: “It’s just to make sure he’s got people with him, so that he’s not doing it on his own.

“There are few people coming with me, and we’re trying to get more to come along, and hopefully raise more money and awareness.

“We’re trying to find new people who don’t know much about him to keep the story going, and to help him get past the £200,000 mark.

“I’ve never met him, but I saw he was doing all three peaks, so I sent him a message and we had a little chat. He’s done so much.

“He’s unbelievable; I know how hard it is to walk miles and miles every day, but how he does it in his Speedos… he must be so cold some days.

“My girlfriend’s little lads are coming with me; they like going up there, so they’ll keep us fit, and pace us to make sure we don’t go too slow.”

Richard completed a walk of the same path last August, leading a team of nine up the mountain in aid of the Royal British Legion.

Anyone interested in joining Richard and Speedo Mick can do so by meeting at the start of the Llanberis path at 10am on February 18.
