A PUPIL at Rhyl High School, 16, was taken to hospital after he was hit by a vehicle on the way to school this morning (October 27).

The incident, involving one pupil and one vehicle, took place on Grange Road, with emergency services alerted just before 8.30am.

The boy has since been taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

A police statement said: “A 16-year-old boy remains in hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic collision in Rhyl this morning.

“Shortly before 8.30am, police were notified of a collision involving a grey-coloured Citroen DS3 and a pedestrian on Grange Road.

“The emergency services attended the scene and the 16-year-old pedestrian was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by ambulance.

“Any witnesses or anybody who may have been in the area and who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact PC Nicholas Choak via the website or by calling 101, quoting incident number B162899."

A school statement added: “We were notified of the road traffic collision on Grange Road involving one of our pupils this morning as he walked to school.

“We sent members of the staff to the scene to see if they could offer assistance to the emergency services that were responding to the incident.

“Our staff stayed with our pupil and escorted his family to the hospital.

“He was treated at the scene and has been taken by ambulance to Glan Clwyd Hospital for further treatment.

“The school and his friends and classmates are wishing him a speedy recovery.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called today, shortly before 8.30am, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a person and car on Grange Road, Rhyl.

“We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, where we were supported by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer colleagues.

“One person was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital for further treatment.”
