PLANS for a new Burger King restaurant at the westbound A55 Kinmel services, near Bodelwyddan, are still ongoing after an extension was agreed for the application.

Owners EG Group want to add a “drive-thru” Burger King, as well as amend a Greggs bakery unit that was previously approved at planning.

A decision on the application was due from Denbighshire County Council (DCC) by yesterday (October 16).

But in a statement, the council confirmed that the application is ongoing after an extension, of an undisclosed period of time, was granted.

A spokesperson for DCC said: “This application is still under consideration and an extension of time has been agreed.

“The agent involved indicated a few weeks ago that drainage surveys of the site are being undertaken and that additional information will be provided when it becomes available.

“The council is currently awaiting this information and we will need to re-consult Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and/or Natural Resources Wales upon receipt.”

If successful, the proposal states it will create 20 jobs.

The following works have been proposed in the application to DCC:

• The development of a “drive-thru” unit to be occupied by Burger King.

• Additional car parking.

• Additional electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities.

• Rationalisation of the as-built Greggs unit.

The application states: “The proposed development will result in the delivery of a facility for which there is an identified need.

“It will also rationalise the planning position regarding the Greggs unit, as approved in 2018, and provide additional parking capacity including dedicated spaces for caravans.

“Burger King has agreed to operate the drive-thru restaurant upon receipt of a satisfactory planning permission.

"The drive-thru unit will be 183 sq m in area. The development will comprise a significant enhancement to the offer, choice and value for users of the services.

"Regarding layout, the Burger King drive-thru unit will be located within the central car park, opposite the Greggs unit.”
