PLANS have been submitted to create a new Burger King restaurant at the westbound A55 Kinmel services, near Bodelwyddan.

Owners EG Group want to add a “drive-thru” Burger King, as well as amend a Greggs bakery unit that was previously approved at planning.

If successful, the proposal states it will create 20 jobs.

The following works have been proposed in an application to Denbighshire County Council:

• The development of a “drive-thru”, unit to be occupied by Burger King.

• Additional car parking.

• Additional electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities.

• Rationalisation of the as-built Greggs unit.

The application states: “The proposed development will result in the delivery of a facility for which there is an identified need.

“It will also rationalise the planning position regarding the Greggs unit, as approved in 2018, and provide additional parking capacity including dedicated spaces for caravans.

“Burger King has agreed to operate the drive-thru restaurant upon receipt of a satisfactory planning permission.

"The drive-thru unit will be 183 sq m in area. The development will comprise a significant enhancement to the offer, choice and value for users of the services.

"Regarding layout, the Burger King drive-thru unit will be located within the central car park, opposite the Greggs unit.”

A decision on the application is due from Denbighshire County Council by Sunday, October 16.

The application adds: “Owing to the loss of car parking to accommodate the development, additional car parking is proposed to the east of the Starbucks unit in order to ensure that user demand for the services can be met at peak times.

"As part of the development proposals, 15 car parking bays will be removed to facilitate the construction of the restaurant unit and drive-thru lane.

“However, the proposals include the provision of parking fronting the restaurant site as well as an additional car parking area located to the east of the development site.

"A total of 31 new bays, inclusive of two bays to mobility impaired standard will be constructed, providing a total provision of 71 bays (a net increase of 16 bays).

“This will be inclusive of three new EV charging bays, constituting a total of six EV bays and two caravan parking bays."

Yesterday (September 12), a Burger King spokesperson told the Journal: “Burger King UK is regularly evaluating opportunities to bring our great-tasting products to more guests in new locations.

“However, we do not currently have any information regarding a restaurant at this location.”
