A BISTRO and bar in Rhyl is due to move to a new location by the town’s seafront.

Michelle Mellor opened Harrisons Bistro & Bar in the summer of 2021, but her leasing of the property it is based at, on Wellington Road, is due to expire.

As a result, Michelle is to move her business in November to 84 West Parade, formerly occupied by The Lounge Bar and located by Palace Apartments, taking on a new name in doing so.

The close proximity between her current and future premises means Michelle is hopeful she will retain much of her clientele after the move.

She said: “My lease has ended, so we’re going to The Lounge Bar. I’ve known Carol Hughes, who owns it, for years; she’s like a family friend, and just wants someone to go in there and make it work and thrive.

“We’ve just got to rebuild the kitchen and the dining area in there. I’m hoping it will be nice, being right on the promenade.

“I was painting there on Monday and must have counted about 50 people in an hour-and-a-half peeping in as they walked past, which was crazy.”

Michelle, who owns Micky's Professional Catering Company, also oversees the “Meals on Wheels” service across Denbighshire.

She plans to move straight out of her current site and into the new base at the beginning of next month.

Michelle added: “I can’t afford to be off work, because we still have to do the community meals twice a day. It’s going to be a bit of a challenge, but we’ll do it.

“We’re going to finish service here and go out with a bang on Saturday, November 5, move and set up on the Sunday, have last bits of training for the team and deliveries in on the Monday, and then we’ll open on Tuesday, November 8.

“We’ll keep it called The Lounge Bar at the moment, but under my business name, because people can still relate to that and will know where it is.

“The good thing about it is that it’s only about three streets from where we are now, so it’s not far at all from where our core clientele is based.

“We have a lot of people who feel welcome there and have got to know us; who have come in on their own but have got to meet each other and made friends, and had meals or cups or tea.

“I want to keep that community spirit, because we’ve worked really hard for that.”

Michelle also launched a special “cost of living offer” at Harrisons last week to help customers and families cope with the current cost of living crisis.

A range of board games are also available for families to play and enjoy some quality time together.
