HAVING helped set the business up 27 years ago, things are still going strong at Vagabonds for Zoe Price – and she now has her own space on Prestatyn’s High Street to show for it.

After finishing college, Zoe set up shop at market stalls and festivals, and has since gone from trading in a three-floor shop next to where the Apollo Bingo is now found, to the Queen’s Market, to online.

That was until December 2020, when Zoe, who sells everything from crystals, candles and incense to pendulums, tarot cards and cauldrons, signed for an empty High Street.

COVID-19 restrictions meant it wasn’t until April 2021 that the new Vagabonds store opened, but its vibrant shop brimming with colour and a wide array of esoteric items has slotted in perfectly.

Zoe, who ranks reopening Vagabonds at its current premises as her proudest moment in business, said: “It’s been so much better (on High Street); it’s been brilliant.

“It was a bit of a shock because, after having so much time being closed, and then having all of the holidaymakers coming to the town at once, was like nothing, then everything.

“It was a shock, but a really good one. I’d always wanted a shop in Prestatyn, and there were quite a few new businesses springing up, so it just seemed the right thing to do.

“Seeing the sign finally go above the door was a very lovely moment, as was seeing all of our customers again and welcoming them to the new shop.”

As well as its more left-field stock, Vagabonds also offers much in the way of clothing, crafts, bath and beauty products and more, while its jewellery is hand-crafted by Zoe herself.

While it has operated as a family business at times previously, Zoe has been the one constant throughout, and has been particularly delighted by the recent level of interest in its quirkier range.

She added: “Crystals are probably the thing at the moment. Crystals, incense and candles are our main sellers.

“We import the crystals, but mix some of the crystals into jewellery.

“But we sell all sorts - taro cards, a lot of pagan bits and bobs, cauldrons! We’ve always sold that sort of thing, but since lockdown, there’s been a big surge of people being interested in New Age stuff, and crystals.”
