A WOMAN who grew up in Denbighshire and is now a military wife living in Anglesey has written a horror novel set in Ynys Môn.

Samantha Fisher’s latest book in what she hopes will be at least a six-part series, “Base Fear: Deadly Secrets”, tells the story of Paige Daniels, a military brat from England whose family is posted to Anglesey.

Ordinarily, Paige embraces the challenges that come with having a parent serving in the military, but when her family are posted to Ynys Môn, she discovers their new quarter comes with a grislier history than most.

Plagued by an unknown entity with a malicious streak, Paige must join the pieces of a decades-old puzzle if she hopes to save the ones she loves.

Samantha, who was born in St Asaph, lived in Prestatyn until she was 19, went to school in Abergele, and moved to RAF Valley roughly five years ago, said the book stems partly from personal experience.

She said: “I have been able to draw on my experiences as a military wife of 15 years in order to explore, within the novel, themes of family, separation, grief, and mental health.

“I married my husband who is in the military, spent about 10 years travelling around England, and about five years ago, moved back to Anglesey (at RAF Valley).

“It’s set on the base that I live at, and it’s going to be part of a series that explores different bases; some in Britain, some overseas. A lot of them have local legend surrounding them, or different horror stories.

“Obviously, bases have seen a lot of action since World War Two. There are quite a few stories about hauntings; there is even one down in Mildenhall, which is the focus of another book in the series, which has a legend about a witch.

“It was really just from travelling around and reading about all of these local legends and myths that come up.”
