A LEADING North Wales law firm has been shortlisted for three prestigious legal awards.

Gamlins Law is up for law firm of the year in the Modern Law Awards and the Wales Legal Awards, while solicitor advocate Jaimie Whiteley is nominated for the rising star award in the Modern Law Awards.

The nominations for law firm of the year recognise how Gamlins Law has evolved from being a high street practice with its client base generally focussed on the North-east Wales corridor, to being a regional powerhouse with a client base stretching across Wales and England.

The transformation of the firm has been driven by the senior management team, led by managing director Ron Davison, with key initiatives on client service and staff mental health and wellbeing.

The firm has doubled in size since 2014 and now employs more than 75 people, while there has also been 100 per cent financial growth since 2017.

The start of 2022 saw the business move into a new 10,500 sq. ft head office at Morfa Hall in Rhyl, complementing its other existing offices in Ruthin, Mold, Denbigh, Abergele and Holywell.

Through its “Give with Gamlins” initiative, the firm has completed more than 1,200 hours of volunteering and given £1million of pro bono legal advice.

Despite being less than two years qualified, rising star nominee Jaimie is rapidly gaining a reputation in employment law which has seen her take on High Court injunction work, First Tier Tribunal appeal work, as well as representing PLC clients at tribunal.

Elissa Thursfield, director and head of employment law at Gamlins, said: “Jaimie is trusted because of her absolute attention to detail, hard work and passion for access to justice.

“The work she has taken on - and succeeded at - at such a junior stage in her career is astounding.

“She is calm, humble and a steadying force for clients who are often experiencing real-life traumas.

“Her contribution to clients, the profession and our firm cannot be underestimated and absolutely deserves recognition.”

The winners of the Modern Law Awards will be announced on April 7 in London and the Wales Legal Awards on May 20 in Cardiff.
