AN INCREDIBLE £14,000 was raised after a challenge in memory of Rhyl hillwalking enthusiast Duncan Macauley.

Earlier this year, fundraisers tackled the renowned Welsh 3000s challenge and 15 peaks over 3000 feet.

Despite tough weather conditions, participants scaled all 15 of Snowdonia's 3000 ft plus peaks.

Money raised through the challenge will go towards installing community defibrillators.

One of the fundraisers, Paul Fairhurst, said: "The event was a momentous effort by all concerned, from the original plan to the execution of all the challenges. We would like to thank all participants and all that donated we are blown away from the success of it all.

"The total amount raised was £14,113. A fantastic final figure to give this cause a great boost. Also we estimate that there will be between 12 to 15 defibrillators and boxes out in the communities in our great friend Duncan’s memory.

"We would like to give a special thanks to the elite of our challenge participants: Lee Webster, Mathew Harrison and John Joddy Grifiths.

"These lads went the extra mile for us. They completed the Welsh 3000 in under 16 hours in poor conditions.

"We plan to be back in the spring with a whole new concept of challenges for The Heart Monitors team to carry out," Paul added.
