IN THE only Lockstock Ardal Northwest fixture of the weekend, CPD Y Rhyl 1879 got back to winning ways at Brickfield Rangers.

Within the first few minutes of the game starting, Rhyl found themselves ahead. A loose ball on the edge of the box was collected by Elliot Evans, who spotted Rangers’ goalkeeper, Elliot Hall, off his line.

Evans gracefully lifted the ball over him and into the goal to put Rhyl in front.

And after only eight minutes in, the Lilywhites had doubled their lead, after Jonny Taylor had won a free kick midway through Rangers’ half.

He took the free kick quickly ,slotting the ball through to Leon Atkins, who took a touch and fired the ball past Hall into the roof of the net.

With 34 minutes played, Taylor and Hall tangled off the ball, an incident that was missed by referee Ryan Davies but was seen by his assistant, Macy Watson.

The resulting action saw Taylor receive a straight red card, adding to Rhyl’s growing list of unavailable players. Following the red card the game lost its edge as a spectacle, with 1879 sitting deep and Rangers trying to break them down.

Pressure really began to mount on Rhyl afterwards, before a mistimed tackle by Warren Adam early in the second half gave away a penalty.

Up stepped Harley Steel, who saw his shot saved by Luke Wilmot, low to his left and to the applause of the travelling Rhyl fans.

After this 2-0 win, Rhyl are back in action on Wednesday (November 9) when they travel to Flint Mountain in the Ardal North League Cup (7.30pm kick-off).
