CHORAL works by a St Asaph organist are being released on CD.
All Angels Cry Aloud – made up of pieces written by John Hosking, St Asaph Cathedral’s assistant director of music – is being launched on Friday, July 1 during a special event.
The disc was recorded by the Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge and the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir, in the “magnificent” acoustics of Ely Cathedral. Guest soprano soloist, Olivia Hunt, also performs; Olivia was a finalist in the BBC's 2009 Young Chorister of the Year competition.
During the launch – to be held at the city’s Cathedral at 7.30pm – John will give a lecture on the process and “inspiration” behind composing. Extracts from the CD will be played and Olivia will perform. Following the talk, guests will have the opportunity to purchase the CD and enjoy a glass of wine.
John said: “I am extremely excited about the launch of the CD. At the time of recording, it was the first time I had actually heard some of the pieces which was both nerve wracking and thrilling. It's amazing to hear your work brought alive by two such fine choirs.
”The disc was recorded over three nights in Ely Cathedral. One of my personal highlights is the Royal Blessing, written to celebrate the birth of Prince George.
”I hope that people will be both excited and moved by the recording; I always set to paint the words as vividly as possibly so hopefully it will take those who listen to it into a different dimension.”
John, aged 39, has worked at the Cathedral for 12 years. John has achieved a lot of success with his composing; a further disc containing a major work he has written for organ – The Fourteen Stations of the Cross – is to be released by Convivium Records.
Those not attending the launch can purchase the CD by searching All Angels Cry Aloud on Amazon.
