Taxi driver sought in shopkeeper death probe driver to come forward

POLICE investigating the death of a Rhyl shopkeeper are appealing for a taxi driver to come forward. Amarjeet Singh-Bhakar, 37, died after being stabbed during an incident on Prince Edward Avenue, Rhyl, last month. North Wales Police believe that a taxi had to slow down as it manoeuvred through a crowd of people on Prince Edward Avenue at about 3am on Sunday, April 30.

Coffee morning to help Kenya school

A FORMER postman who created a school in Africa is hoping the kettle will be constantly on the boil during his latest fundraising event. Ron Cavie, of Prestatyn – who founded St Ronnie’s Academy in the small village of Shanzu, a suburb of the Kenyan city of Mombasa – will host a coffee morning on Saturday, June 10 at the Jubilee Community Centre on Seabank Drive, Prestatyn.

A RHYL school is feeling ‘powerful’ after securing a three year partnership with an energy company as part of their Business Class Programme.  Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School (BEJCHS) has secured ties with SP Energy Networks, part of the ScottishPower Group of companies. With the support of the school’s careers Wales officer, Mags Williams, BEJCHS will now involve themselves in the programme, developed by Business in the Community.” 

Pupils get flavour of monastic life at St Asaph Cathedral

CHILDREN dressed as monks and learned about the origins and legends associated with Saint Asaph and Saint Kentigern. Pupils from Fairholme Preparatory School, St Asaph also listened to a talk by Alan McGuinness about the workings of the organ at St Asaph Cathedral, enjoyed a short concert showcasing its sounds and designed their own stained glass windows during a visit there.

Blooming marvellous festival attracts thousands of green-fingered tourists

GREEN-fingered and garden loving tourists are in for a treat. A “spectacular” 16-day festival of gardens is being staged across North Wales. Among the “stars” of the event are Bodrhyddan Hall in Rhuddlan, Bodnant Garden in the Conwy Valley, Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Plas Newydd near Llanfair PG,  Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens in Menai Bridge, Treborth Botanic Garden in Bangor and Crug Farm Plants in Caernarfon.

Prestatyn police remind dog owners to not leave their pooches in the heat

TWO good Samaritans on patrol rescued a dog that was struggling after being left in a car.  Officers from Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele Local Policing Team were out at Parc Prestatyn when they spied the distressed pooch, which had been left in a vehicle in hot weather. They managed to open the car door and waited with the dog until its owners returned. 

Visitors treated to "slowest ride on earth" and giant sunbirds at Rhyl's Seafest

GIANT and brightly coloured sunbirds swooped down on to Rhyl High Street on bank holiday Monday. Scores of visitors were treated to the sights and sounds of the sea during the town’s newest event – titled Seafest. As well as the birds, there was also the “slowest ride on earth” – a boat ride, termed the Lifeboat, which turns in very slow circles.

Rhyl ducks saved from busy A55 roundabout

DUCKLINGS stuck on a busy roundabout were rescued by two runners.  The birds were spied trying to waddle across the road by the A525 in Rhuddlan, near Table Table, and the hotel on Station Road, by Katie Griffith and her fiancé, Graham Hannah.
