RHYL and District remain fifth in the WRU National League Division Two North standings despite a disappointing 15-0 loss at Newtown.

The home side’s heavier pack were in dominant mood and proved to be the difference between the two sides, with two tires coming as a result of surging drives from close range.

The game was littered with errors that saw Damon Price and Jason Blackmore receive yellow cards at similar times, which left the Dragons down to 13 men for eight minutes.

Despite their numerical advantage the away side defended resolutely to ensure the score retained respectability, although they were unable to create any significant chances of note at the other end in what was their eighth loss in 16 contests.

The second team had a friendly at the Waen and came out with the win at 38-35. In an entertaining game with plenty of try’s Rhyl managed five tries, which were all successfully converted.

A club spokesman, said: “Great promise was shown by a few players who could be pushing for places in the first team come the new season.”
