RHYL and District’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt as they fell to a heavy 56-9 defeat at runaway WRU National League Division Two North leaders Denbigh.

The home side wasted no time in making their presence felt with two tries in quick succession, but the Dragons responded well and were rewarded for their improved play with a pair of penalties from the boot of Richie Williams.

After the break saw the visitors finally relent to the significant pressure put on them by a powerful Denbigh side, who began to find gaps in the rearguard to score at will throughout a dominant second period.

The away side battled well and finished the game strongly with forwards Tom Williams and George Cliff impressing, along with the half back combination of Tom Jones and Jason Blackmore.

Rhyl will be hoping for better fortune when the pair square off again this Saturday in the North Wales Cup, which will be another huge test for the young group.
