RGC head coach Matt Silva has made his first signing of the summer with the acquisition of talented forward Jess Williams.

The 22-year-old is the first fresh face to arrive at Stadiwm Zip World over the course of what has been an eventful off-season to date, with Williams joining brother Beau within the senior set-up.

He is an experienced loose head prop who received a glowing recommendation from his sibling and impressed coaching staff considerably during their initial sessions to ready themselves for the new Indigo Group Premiership season.

Speaking to the RGC website, Williams said: "A lot of credit to my brother for putting my name forward to RGC, who I then got in touch with and got the ball rolling from there.

“It is easier having Beau here with me, he’s showed me the ropes, introduced me to everyone and made the transition to RGC quick and easy."

The new arrival has previously played for high-profile clubs such as Tauranga Sports, Bay of Plenty U19s, Chiefs U20s and Rotherham Titans, and he will get the chance to make an instant impact following the departure of skipper Evan Yardley to Cardiff.

Beau Williams joined the Gogs’ under Mark Jones last October and contributed heavily throughout the campaign, and turned in a series of outstanding displays to maximise his immediate impact with the squad.

"I’m really excited to have my brother here with us this year. He’s a top bloke and a good player so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the team,” Beau told the RGC website.

“His scrummaging and work rate around the pitch are things that will be great assets for us heading into this season.

“Last time we played together would’ve been two years ago for Tauranga Sports."

RGC will be taking the field on Friday, August 16 at Ruthin Rugby Club against Caldy, which is their first confirmed friendly to date (7.30pm).

Admission is £10 for adults with free admission for anyone under 16.
