RGC star Afon Bagshaw has been named in the Wales 7s training squad ahead of their World Rugby Series tilt.

Head coach Richie Pugh has selected some of the most promising young players in Welsh rugby will complement a core group of experienced sevens players, with the series opening on December 1 with the iconic tournament in Dubai.

Bagshaw has been a growing influence on the set-up since being selected last year, and he was recently rewarded for his exceptional performances with a sevens contract from the Welsh Rugby Union.

This has meant his availability for the Gogs has been limited this term, but his ongoing involvement with the national side is another huge boost for rugby throughout north Wales.

Pugh, said: "There's a fresh look to the squad and a lot of excitement for the series ahead.

"We've got over 20 players all pushing each other over three weeks, driving standards.

"Exposure to the sevens environment, where players’ skills are tested under pressure on the world stage, is great for player development. Our aim is to help produce future regional and international players through the WRU pathway, and we're looking to build on the success we've already had in doing that."
