Rhyl weightlifter Tesni Jones and Prestatyn squash star Laura Hughes have returned with their bronze medals from what has been a successful Commonwealth Games for Team Wales.

Hughes, who trains in the NW1 Gym in Llandudno, took out the bronze in the women's weightlifting 75kg class on Sunday.

The Prestatyn weightlifter finished third with a score of 207 having lifted a high of 91kg in the snatch section of the event and 116kgs in the clean and jerk.

Prior to the journey to Australia she said it was a dream come true to make the Commonwealth Games squad and now she has a bronze medal to show for it.

All this having taken up the sport just two years ago.

Evans, who went to school in Rhyl, also claimed bronze in the squash singles event.

The 25-year-old clinched victory in her women’s singles bronze medal play-off against Malaysia’s Nicol David on the Gold Coast.

The world number 12, who also triumphed the British National Championship in February, won 11-7, 3-11, 12-10, 11-7 against a player ranked three places higher in the global rankings.

Evans also took part in the women's and mixed doubles with Welsh compatriots Deon Saffery and Peter Creed respectively.

Both pairings were unable to make it through the quarter finals finishing fifth and just a few places away from a second medal for Evans.

St Asaph's Dylan Kerfoot-Robson also competed at the games in the Mens mountain biking and road race events.

The first Welsh mountain biker to compete at a Commonwealth Games since 2006, Kerfoot-Robson finished 11th, clocking in with a time of 1:26:37 just 9.01 minutes off gold medalist, New Zealand's Samual Gaze.

He followed up his mountain biking efforts with the men's road race. He finished 31st in that event, although only 2.34 minutes off winner, Australia's Steele Von Hoff.
