Rhyl 1879 secured a point with a late equaliser against Newtown, despite missing several key players.
The match at the Hops & Barley Community Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw, with Rhyl showing "real resilience" in "difficult weather conditions."
This was the debut match for the new leadership duo, Steve Giblin and Zion Hopkins, who took over after Paul Moore's departure.
The Lilywhites faced a challenging task, with Reece Fairhurst and Dan Cockerline suspended, and Billy Holmes, Ben Lawrence, Archie Jones, Brad Barnes, and Luke Riley all unavailable.
However, Ben Lightfoot captained the side, and Jason Foulkes returned to the squad.
Newtown, buoyed by a 7-0 Welsh Cup victory and one of the strongest defensive records in the UK, posed a significant threat.
Despite the heavy rain and strong winds, Rhyl managed to hold their own from the start.
The Lilywhites' early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Joel Giblin scored from close range, giving Rhyl a deserved 1-0 lead.
However, Newtown quickly responded with a spectacular 30-yard volley from Jamie Hyne, levelling the scores at 1-1.
The visitors began to apply greater pressure after the equaliser, but Rhyl managed to create several promising opportunities.
In the second half, both sides showed competitive spirit, but it was Newtown who struck next.
Substitute Hanoch Boakye scored in the 65th minute, putting the visitors ahead 2-1.
Rhyl refused to let their heads drop and continued to battle in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence was finally rewarded five minutes from time.
Stephen Bullen claimed a cross from the left before sending a long ball over the top to the pacey Promise Mmadi, who had just come on.
The forward raced through on goal and kept his composure to score, bringing Rhyl level at 2-2.
The match ended in an entertaining draw, with both sides pushing for a winner in the closing minutes.
The much-changed Rhyl side, including standouts Joel Giblin, Dan Apantaku, Ryan Austin, and Jordan Brett, impressed with their performance against strong opposition.
Reflecting on the match, Rhyl 1879 said: "It was a fantastic response from the Lilywhites, who had to show real resilience after falling behind in the second half.
"While the Lilywhites may feel they could have made more of their bright opening spell, the determination shown to fight back and secure a point provided a positive start for Steve Giblin and Hopkins in their interim roles."
