PHIL PARKINSON remained upbeat after drawing 1-1 against winless Burnley at The Racecourse.

Former Leicester and England striker Vardy, signed by the Clarets as a free agent over the weekend, served a one-match ban at the Racecourse Ground and watched on as Zeki Amdouni fired Burnley in front before Jacques Ekomie levelled.

It left Burnley, relegated from the Premier League last season, still in the bottom three with only three points from six matches while Wrexham are 13th with seven points.

The Reds' wait for a home win continued, with their season yet to spark as they target another run at a play-off spot.

“Let’s not get too despondent,” Parkinson said. “Burnley were in the Premier League last year, and they’ve had a bad start to the season but they’ve got some very good players.

“As much as we went out to win it, I think the second-half performance was a lot better and I don’t want to be too down about drawing against Burnley.

“Respect the point. We’d have loved it to be three…I thought the game was there for us to go and win it, I really did, and we just kind of got a bit scruffy in terms of our possession, gave the ball away a bit cheaply at times.

“But it’s not a lack of effort. The lads gave us a lot over these last three games.”
