Rhyl overcame Coedpoeth United FC 4-2 in a hard-fought FAW trophy match on September 7, witnessed by a crowd of 261.

In a turn of events from last week’s league cup penalty shoot-out loss against 10-man Porthmadog, Rhyl dominated the game from the start.

Yet, the team were soon hit with an early blow when Casey Faulkner was injured within two minutes, leading to him being replaced by Oli Staveley.

Rhyl held onto most of the possession from the spirited tier-four team, with new goalie Adam Reid, recently signed from Burscough, making several smart saves.

However, it was the visitors who had the best early chance following a crisp counterattack.

The home team responded with a series of attacks, including a near miss from number nine, Bravo.

However, the crowd didn't have to wait long for a goal.

Tom Kemp found the net at 24 minutes, thanks to an impressive play with man of the match, Jordan Worthington (1-0).

A series of impressive plays led to a 42-minute equaliser by veteran striker Breeze, turning the scoreline to 1-1 at half time.

The second half saw Dan Wright replaced by James (Jimbo) Hay, bringing a renewed dominance by Rhyl.

Only five minutes in, Jonny Bravo set up a goal superbly for striking partner Callum Parry (2-1). But due to injury, Bravo was replaced by Leigh Craven at the 60-minute mark.

The momentum continued as Jordan Worthington netted a goal from the edge of the box on 63 minutes (3-1).

With no signs of giving in, the away team retaliated with a goal to make the scoreline 3-2 at 67 minutes.

The final blow came when James Stevens scored the last goal on 71 minutes, concluding the match at 4-2 for Rhyl.

The victory sees Rhyl advance to the next round of the FAW trophy cup draw.

The team will then face a challenging league away fixture against Llannefydd FC on Saturday, September 14 with a 2.30pm kick-off.
