ANOTHER former stalwart at Prestatyn Town has joined the set-up at Meliden FC.

The NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division side have been one of the main beneficiaries of the recent unrest at Bastion Gardens following the takeover of club chairman Jamie Welsh, which resulted in manager Neil Gibson resigning after their JD Cymru North title triumph and a number of influential people behind the scenes also deciding to step away from the Seasiders.

Martin Jones was a close ally of Gibson’s during their incredible success, but the experienced figure has now decided to join The Miners as their new director of football.

He was part of the Town staff when they secured a memorable JD Welsh Cup win for the first time in their history and is highly respected around the domestic scene.

He said: “I’m really pleased and flattered to be asked to help out at Meliden Football Club.

“I hope to bring the experience of my previous roles at Prestatyn to The Miners. If I can help to progress the club in any way both on and off the field, then I will be delighted.

“I’d like to thank the ambitious Committee at Meliden FC for their invitation and look forward to getting started.”

Mark Boulton, Johnathan Price and Tony O’Reilly are others who made the short move to Meliden in recent months, with Ron Squire also joining the Miners’ media team after gaining experience at Prestatyn during the previous campaign.

Manager Gaz Jones said, added: “Having known Martin for a number of years I expect him to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club and I am looking forward to working with him.

“His appointment along with the others the club have made recently shows the determination and ambition to take Meliden to the next level.”
