PRESTATYN Sports marked their return to the Meadows playing field with a 3-1 friendly win for their development side over Rhyl Dragons.

The NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division side worked extremely hard to secure a 25-year lease on the facility to enable the club to progress moving forward and they made an encouraging start to life at their new home with a good display from a squad comprised of youth players and senior figures.

A strong start from the home side saw them go into the break a goal to the good when Archie Jones was fouled in the box, and the same player despatched the spot kick to break the deadlock and have the honour of getting Sports’ first ever goal at the Meadows.

After the break saw the Dragons finally impose themselves on the friendly fixture and got themselves back on level terms following a mix-up in the Sports’ rearguard following a period of pressure.

Credit to the hosts, who remained undeterred despite the setback and they restored their cushion on 75 minutes when experienced striker Lee Beattie produced a moment of magic with a superb strike from 30 yards that nestled into the bottom corner.

Things got even better for Sports soon when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area, and Steve Gilmore produced a fine effort to seal victory on their return to action.

A post on Prestatyn Sports’ Facebook page, read: “Big thanks to Rhyl Dragons for coming down and on a different day could have easily been the other way with the score, with the chances you created. A really close fought game of football, you’re a credit to your management.

“All our lads and the management should be proud, all the hard work over the summer is paying off.”
