RHUDDLAN Town manager Wayne Hughes has “already come to terms” with the fact a new season may never get underway.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division champions were set to take their place in the new NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division this season, but there still appears to be some doubt as to whether the campaign will eventually get underway.

Hughes stated that the local lockdown measures – which turned into a two-week ‘fire-break’ – has “killed” enthusiasm from both the squad and himself, with the boss rightfully focusing his attention on work during a difficult time.

He said: “The local lockdown has killed it for us, we struggled to get players to come to training but now the group chat is completely quiet unless it’s someone’s birthday, myself included.

“I’ve committed to taking on more work now until spring so being self-employed and with the current situation, I need to get the money in and I guess a lot of the players are doing the same.

“I personally think we should forget a season starting this year. The Welsh Government stated that at springtime, the disease will be more under control so what’s the point in pushing for a season to start if it might not finish?

“If a season was to start at some point it would only be half a season with each team playing each other once then no cup games. “The impact has already happened so let’s focus on the 2021/22 season when hopefully things are more settled. I’ve already come to terms now with the season not happening and it looks like the lads have.”

Hughes credited the hard work being done behind the scenes to ensure Town are in a strong position when football is permitted to resume.

A “big announcement” is expected in due course, but due to the current restrictions, plans are obviously taking longer than originally planned.

“To be fair to everyone involved with the club we are still raising money with football cards so we can continue to build the club up and a lot of meetings are still going on with some people,” added Hughes.

“We are hoping to announce some major news soon but with everything that’s going on it’s taking longer than we hoped.”
