PRESTATYN Town general manager Leon Field has announced he is stepping down from the role.

The popular figure presented his letter of resignation to chairman Jamie Welsh earlier this week to spend more time with his family.

Field has been a huge part of the club over the past two seasons, taking over as joint-manager with Ryan Turner when Neil Gibson decided to depart in favour of a coaching role with Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The former Kinmel Bay boss came back into the fold to work behind the scenes alongside fellow general manager Martin Jones, which involved countless hours that go relatively unnoticed compared to the squad’s exploits on the pitch.

Field has now decided to step away from the game for the time being, and he was “hugely thankful” for the opportunity to make his presence felt in a different role.

He said: “I’ve had a good couple of years at Prestatyn Town and I will always be thankful for the opportunity.

“The way things are at the moment I just don’t know if there is going to be any football this season and it’s made me fall out of love with it a little bit being honest. So it’s now time to start focusing on my family which is more important than ever.

“It’s been nice to get some nice messages from supporters and other volunteers for the work I’ve done, and I wish the club all the best for the future.”

Field did not rule out a possible return to football in the region in the future, and his loss represents another change to a Seasiders’ set-up that has undergone some significant off the pitch changes since they clinched the JD Cymru North title in convincing fashion.

This did not result in promotion after failing to obtain their FAW Tier 1 Domestic Licence on appeal, which resulted in previous owner Neal Colakoglu selling to Welsh and moving on to Holywell Town.
