LLANDUDNO concluded their North Wales Cricket League Group A campaign with an eight-wicket home loss to Pwllheli.

The Lions’ were unable to end a disrupted summer on a high note thanks in no small part to a sensational century from Jason Underwood, which allowed the visitors to successfully get over the line with plenty in hand.

The hosts made a promising start to life at the crease with double-figure scores from Sam Rimmington (16) and Danial Evans (23), and things got even better shortly after thanks to impressive contributions from Jamie Grimshaw and Ranjith Thozhuthingal, who managed to attain 53 and 41 respectively.

That was as good as it got for the home side, with Kevin Taylor’s unbeaten 24 the only other score of note as they set a target of 189-5 from their allotted 40 overs.

A brilliant caught and bowled from Oliver Hughes dismissed dangerous opener Adam Williams for 26 when he threatened to make a big score, and Lucas Hughes took the prized scalp of Kalim Al Baloshi after he contributed 25.

Any hope that the Lions had of salvaging a final game victory were dashed by Underwood, who provided a knock of genuine quality to finish the day unbeaten on 116 to steer Pwll’ to success.

The result leaves Llandudno in third position after their ten-game campaign, with Menai Bridge going unbeaten to claim the title in convincing fashion.
