RHYL and District Rugby Club have announced their second team captain for the upcoming season.

The Specsavers National League Division Two North side confirmed that Matt Willars will be the man to lead the Dragons’ reserve team during the upcoming campaign, although there is just no telling when this will be able to get underway as Covid-19 concerns appear to be increasing across the United Kingdom.

This will put into further jeopardy the chances of getting any competitive rugby in the coming weeks, or even months. Until the Welsh Government gives the Welsh Rugby Union the green light everyone is still in limbo.

Willars played a leading role for the Dragons’ second unit last season. He developed considerably and was presented with the Most Improved Player of the Year distinction at their recent awards evening.

The new appointment will be tasked with providing leadership on and off the pitch for a group that showed tremendous progress last season, building confidence and team chemistry with every passing game.

It is the latest in a series of exciting developments at the club in recent months, with Jason Blackmore assuming the role of first-team captain ahead of their expected title challenge next term.

The Dragons’ John Hardy Memorial Playground was officially opened once coronavirus restrictions enabled it to do so, which is a further boost to their impressive community site at Tynewydd Fields.
