MOCHDRE moved up to third in North Wales Cricket League Group A with a dominant 165-run home victory over Pwllheli.

A strong opening partnership and an impressive bowling display were enough to give the hosts another eye-catching success to continue their shortened summer.

Stewart Williams and Sam Davies for them off to a flyer in the middle before the latter was eventually dismissed by Carter Arthur Bentley for 59.

Williams fared far better with 74 from 80 deliveries to put his side in complete control, and skipper Matthew Humphreys further aided his side’s cause with a knock of 43.

Another standout contribution came from Alex Davies, who ended the day unbeaten on 39 as Mochdre set a commanding target of 258-4 from their 40 overs at the crease.

Kyle Brown put the new ball to good use by ousting Pwll’ skipper Jason Underwood for a duck, and Logan Rhys Morgan was brilliantly run out by Scott Brown on 14.

The scales were tipped further in the hosts’ favour thanks to an exceptional spell of bowling from Isaac Buckley, who sent Ben Jones (18), Craig Edwards (16) and Chris Moore (17) back to the pavilion in quick succession to end the day with figures of 3-26 from six overs.

Humphreys brought his good form with the bat into his bowling spell, claiming the scalps of Iwan Moore (3), Syed Kaleem Aslam (0), Kalim Al Baloshi (1) and Iwan Roberts (0) to finish a spellbinding four-over spell with four wickets for the loss of just five runs.

It was left to Mike Humphreys to take the final wicket of the day as the visitors mustered just 94 all out in reply.
