CPD Y Rhyl 1879’s squad continues to take shape as they look to secure the NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division crown at the first attempt.

Manager Gareth Thomas has been extremely active in terms of recruitment in recent weeks, with two more players becoming the latest to join the newly formed club following the decision to end Rhyl FC’s storied history dating back almost 150 years.

A notable coup for the club is the arrival of Chris Bennett, who comes with a good pedigree and has worked with Thomas before during their time together at Denbigh Town.

Bennett has also represented Prestatyn Town and St Asaph City during an impressive playing career, and the player possesses the versatility to operate either at full-back or midfield.

The club also confirmed the signing of Eamon Buhalfaia following an impressive stint for a number of clubs in the West Cheshire League.

An energetic midfielder with an eye for goal, Buhalfaia recently captained Heygarth and is another valuable and experienced asset for Thomas to call upon as they look to leave their mark in their first official season since forming earlier this year.

He said: “Having worked with Chris previously I’m delighted to get him to his hometown club.

“Eamon is a box to box energetic midfielder who loves a tackle. He has played for several clubs in the West Cheshire league and recently captained his side Heygarth FC. His vast experience will be great for our young squad.”

Thomas has assembled a squad with a good blend of youth and veteran leadership ahead of the new campaign, and the manager is hoping for similar success to that which he achieved at Conwy Borough during their memorable treble-winning season.
