CPD Y Rhyl 1879 manager Gareth Thomas has made some significant additions to his backroom staff for the upcoming campaign.

The former Conwy Borough boss has appointed Leighton Sumner as assistant manager, who is no stranger to Belle Vue having played for the now defunct Rhyl FC during the 1990s.

He will be continuing in his role with Connah’s Quay Nomads’ Academy, but Sumner will also lend his expertise to the newly formed club for their inaugural season next term.

Thomas, said: “Leighton is a well-respected coach across North Wales who has experience with both the youth set up at Connah’s Quay Nomads and also helping Hawarden Rangers in the Welsh National League, he has also in the past come through the youth ranks at Rhyl into the first team.”

Also joining the fold is Warren Adam, who was part of the Prestatyn Town squad that clinched the JD Cymru North title in convincing fashion last season.

He boasts a wealth of experience across North Wales and will take on a coaching role alongside Matty Roberts, who was part of the Rhyl FC Academy last season and has also spent time at Rhuddlan Town and Llanelwy Athletic.

“Warren is keen to progress up the coaching ladder,” added Thomas.

“I came across Warren when he started his coaching badges with myself a few years ago. He has also played for me at Conwy (Borough) and as another local lad I’m really looking forward to working with him again.

“Matty Roberts is another young coach who will be a really good addition bringing with him a wealth of local knowledge of the teams and players we will be facing.

“All three of them reside locally and I know how much football means to them in looking to get the new club winning and ensuring we show the fans no matter what, we will never give up as we look to challenge for honours in the coming season.”
