PRESTATYN Town manager Neil Gibson has been reflecting on the “bittersweet feeling” of his side being crowned JD Cymru North champions.

The Seasiders’ boss found out about another title win for the club via social media after the news was leaked to BBC Wales by the Football Association of Wales before clubs had been informed.

There is also plenty of uncertainty regarding Town’s fate next season, with promotion or relegation yet to be decided by the FAW and the club currently exploring legal options in a bid to obtain their Tier 1 Domestic Licence.

Gibson, said: “It is always a fantastic feeling to be crowned champions of the Cymru North once again.

“I would say that a combination of being in the middle of a pandemic, uncertainty as to whether promotion will take place and finding out over social media makes this a more bitter sweet feeling than the previous two occasions we have won this league.

“When Neal (Colakoglu) asked me to comeback from Connah’s Quay to rebuild my hometown club we set some targets of where we wanted to be, at the time we were bottom of the Cymru Alliance with four points from 11 games but we set an ambitious target of staying in the league that season and winning it this season.

“Credit should go to Neal and the general managers for supporting the plans and allowing myself and the coaching staff to work with the players and produce what we have.”

Gibson also had high praise for his players and coaching staff for their exceptional effort throughout the campaign, which saw them 16 points clear of Flint Town United having played twice more before the domestic season was halted.

“A special mention must go to the players and coaching staff. I'm well aware it's not easy to play or work for me as I'm constantly placing demands and pushing them to be the best they can be.

“This season they've reached incredible heights in their dedication, application and standard of performance to deliver the brand of football and philosophy that I set out for them.

“A lot of our players turned down much more lucrative offers and showed true loyalty to either stay or comeback to their hometown club and deliver the success that we have this season. I thank them all for their immense efforts this season both players and back room staff have been truly magnificent.”

In addition to their incredible league exploits, Town also secured some notable cup scalps and are still in the JD Welsh Cup semi-final, which the FAW hope to resume before the start of next season.

“Hopefully we take our rightful place in Welsh premier league as a reward,” added Gibson.

“Nothing should take away from the fantastic achievement from everyone involved. I have always stated from day one of taking over my hometown club in 2007 that we are a special community club.

“A massive thank you to everyone for playing their part in the success the club has achieved this season.”
