BALA TOWN football club is set for a return to the Europa League qualifying rounds after the Football Association of Wales (FAW) ended the 2019/20 Cymru Premier season.

On Tuesday, May 19, the FAW Board of Directors agreed to curtail the 2019/20 season for Tiers 1 to 4, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with Welsh Government’s lockdown guidelines and measures.

It was also decided that the JD Cymru Premier could not be concluded prior to the deadline set by UEFA for European competition entry. An unweighted points per game method was applied to determine the final standings.

As a consequence, the European Play-Offs in the JD Cymru Premier will not take place, meaning Bala Town - who finish in third place - are set for the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.:

The decision means The Lakesiders will return to playing European football in 2020/21 after narrowly missing out in the play-offs last season - making the season just finished the first time in five years that Colin Caton’s side had not represented Wales’ top flight in Europe.

Commenting on the decision made by the FAW, Bala Town chairman Arwel Roberts said: "I’m sure you are all delighted with the decision to curtail the end of the 2019/20 season which means we now qualify for the Europa League.

"This allows us now to move forward, prepare and make decisions that will allow us to be in a strong position to compete against all the other teams within the league next season.

"Thanks to the hard work of our committee members and volunteers that have given their time to tackle, fix, paint (and various other things!) Maes Tegid looks in fantastic condition. It is a meeting place yes, but also a place very near to many of our hearts. Thank you everyone.

"Stay safe, we will meet again soon. Huge congratulations to Colin, Steve, Ryan and all of the squad for the dedication, hard work and efforts this season. Enjoy the celebrations."

Curtailing the season also sees Connah's Quay Nomads crowned Cymru Premier champions for the first time.
