PRESTATYN Town have failed in their appeal bid to secure an FAW Tier 1 Licence for next season.

At an appeal hearing heard on Wednesday, April 29, the Football Association of Wales decided not to give the runaway JD Cymru North leaders a licence, leaving them unable to secure promotion to the top-flight.

This represents a significant blow for the Seasiders’ and their ambitious future plans. Their original licence failure centred on their planning application for a new TV gantry, with their old one not up to standard.

Planning permission was submitted to Denbighshire county council some time ago construct a replacement gantry and for the formation of additional hardstanding.

Permission was not granted by the time of the hearing due to the coronavirus pandemic, with council meetings in shutdown until social distancing measures are relaxed by the UK government.

Despite the current situation, the FAW have decided not to award them the necessary licence, leaving the club’s future now uncertain.

The club have told The Journal they expect to make a statement in the coming hours.

This news could benefit Flint Town United, who won their appeal and could be promoted in Prestatyn’s place should they end up a distant second to Neil Gibson’s side.

JD Cymru South leaders Swansea University also had their original refusal upheld, but there was better fortune for Cefn Druids, Newtown and Airbus Broughton, who were successful.
