ANGLESEY Circuit has confirmed their Wirral 100 Club event this weekend will go ahead as planned.

Despite sporting fixtures across the region postponed due to the increasing thret of the coronavirus pandemic, circuit officials will be proceedings as planned with the official start of the 2020 motorcycle campaign.

A statement from the Wirral 100 Club, read: “The club’s upcoming two-day race meeting at Anglesey, including the one-day New Riders’ Course, will go ahead, unless Government guidelines over Coronavirus and low-key sporting events, change significantly next week.

“Our plans have been disrupted by the need to constantly review Government guidance, to seek confirmatory information from the ACU and from the Anglesey Circuit, and to reconfirm that there should be no disruption to the provision of the medical cover required to run the race meeting.

“The well-being of everyone at the race meeting is, of course, paramount – riders and their friends and family, officials, marshals, medical staff, circuit staff, and spectators.

“We will be changing some of our procedures at signing-on, and we would urge all those present to adopt the well-publicised steps to minimise the spread of this virus – stay away if you feel unwell, regularly wash your hands, use a tissue for coughs and sneezes, avoid unnecessary contact with others.”

Both days this weekend will follow the ‘Racing for Sport’ format. Each of the bike-category classes will have four races, over 10 or 12 laps, and count towards the Club’s 2020 Championships.

There will be a broad base of machinery on track, including Powerbikes, Pre-Electronics Powerbikes, Formula 600, 650 Twins, 100 – 500cc Allcomers, Pre-Injection 501-1300cc, Golden Era Supersport, Forgotten Era including Classics up to 500cc and Open Sidecars.

Formula 600 champion Chris Eden is expected to sit on the sidelines this season, and nearest rival Adrian Kershaw has also moved on, so the championship will be wide open with the returning Barry Dimelow and popular Irishman Eoin Collins possible favourites.
