CONWY Borough bemoaned his side’s lack of match sharpness following their narrow 2-1 home loss to Guilsfield.

The Tangerines’ have been relatively inactive of late and has nothing to show from their latest outing against the JD Cymru North high-flyers, leaving them in seventh spot ahead of their next game at Rhyl on Saturday.

Morrell, said: “It was a disappointing result in a game where it was difficult to play football at times.

“Credit to Guilsfield, I thought they worked extremely hard throughout in every position to put us under so much pressure and we struggled to cope with them physically and their direct play throughout.

“Despite all that, had we taken one or two late chances we might have shared the points.

“It’s been hard to get up to match sharpness with so few games of late, but I felt we fell into the trap of going long ourselves against a strong wind, but there was certainly no lack of effort from our lads.

“We’re just hoping we can learn something from this for our future games.”

The home ide got off to the worst possible start and fell behind after just three minutes when a Chris Cathrall free kick found its way into the net.

A stunning save from Guils’ stopper Mike Jones denied Borough a certain leveller on 38 minutes, but he could do nothing to prevent Sean McCaffrey’s exceptional long-range strike after Corrig McGonigle rattle the post with a free kick moments before to leave things all square at the break.

After the interval saw the visitors regain the upper hand on 69 minutes thanks to a fine effort from Jake Cook, who curled a shot into the corner following good link-up play with Jake Richards.

Home custodian Ben Heald denied Cook a second immediately following the restart with a smart save on 71 minutes, and Morrell’s side missed two good opportunities late on as they tried to salvage something from the contest.
