RHYL FC have arranged a special friendly this week as they get set for a return to competitive action.

The Lilies’ have been without a fixture for a considerable period of time thanks to the recent adverse weather that has resulted in a series of postponements.

Eddie Maurice-Jones men welcome Salford City U23s to the Educate Group Stadium on Wednesday night (7.30pm), in order for them to get some much-needed match sharpness before hosting Gresford Athletic on Saturday (2pm).

The JD Cymru North side have played just five contests since the turn of the year, winning two and losing three.

This includes league successes over Llanfair United and Ruthin Town and defeats to second-tier rivals Penrhyncoch and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

They were also ousted from the JD Welsh Cup during this period, losing 4-1 at top-flight side Newtown.

The Lilywhites’ currently sit in ninth spot and two points behind fifth-placed Bangor City having played two games more.

Maurice-Jones’ men have netted 44 goals in their 24 games so far this term, conceding 36 on their way to a record of won 11, drawn two and lost 11.

Gresford have endured an inconsistent campaign that found them deep in relegation trouble during the early stages.

Steve Halliwell’s side made improvements during the January window that has brought a turnaround in form, but they are still looking over their shoulders in 12th and five points clear of the bottom four.

Following the Lilies’ clash against Athletic, they have another free weekend before travelling to high-flying Colwyn Bay on March 20 before closing out the month with a home game against Conwy Borough.
