PRESTATYN Town head into their pivotal home clash against JD Cymru North title rivals Flint Town United knowing a win would all-but clinch promotion.

The Seasiders’ enjoy a comfortable 13-point cushion at the summit having played twice more than Niall McGuinness’ side, who will find themselves right back in championship contention if they secure three points at the Motion Finance Stadium and win their games in hand.

This league fixture could also have huge implications on next week’s JD Welsh Cup quarter-final encounter between the two sides, ensuring there will be a second-tier team in the final four.

Here are five players that will have to perform well for Town during the game to give them a good chance of success.

Kai Edwards:

The experienced defender was just one of the many high-profile names to arrive during the summer and he has lived up to his lofty reputation so far this season.

The former Wales C international has been an assured presence at the back for a side that has shipped just 19 goals in 24 JD Cymru North fixtures this term.

Edwards possesses a controlled aggression and positioning sense that few other defenders in the division can match. He also poses a significant threat from set-pieces that further highlights his overall influence.

He is sure to have his hands full this weekend with talented trio Mark Cadwallader, Alex Titchiner and Nathan Brown set to pose real problems for Neil Gibson’s men in the final third.

Cadwallader has long been recognised as one of the best finishers outside of the JD Cymru Premier and looks primed to secure the top scorer crown this season.

Titchiner has found some form after an indifferent start and Brown also conjures up plenty of moments of magic at the business end of the field for United.

Edwards has seen it all in the domestic game and has played at the very top, so he will know full-well what to expect and how to handle the occasion.

Dan Roberts:

While other more high-profile names have generated the headlines at Prestatyn, Dan Roberts has quietly emerged as a player of the year candidate thanks to a series of exceptional displays.

The energetic full back is a skilled defender who also has a tremendous impact at the other end of the field, making him a duel threat against any side in the league or beyond.

He has further enhanced his reputation as one of the best players in the division this season and plays with tremendous commitment and fearlessness that has many predicting a very bright future for the player.

Roberts has cemented his place in the Town line-up this season and has grown in stature with every game. He is not afraid of the big occasion which the Seasiders’ will need as they look to tighten their grip on the JD Cymru North title to an almost unassailable level.

Ben Maher:

With so many attacking options at Gibson’s disposal it is easy to forget the influence of Ben Maher on this Prestatyn Town squad.

The attacking midfielder has been at his creative best so far this season and is a threat that United need to take seriously if they are going to get themselves back in the title race.

Maher has a rare gift of taking over a game at will and has the nous to open un opposing defences exceptionally well.

He is also a significant threat in and around the box from open play and when [resented with a free-kick opportunity.

Prestatyn will need Maher firing on all cylinder in Saturday’s clash too give them the best possible chance of securing three points.

Jordan Davies:

Prolific forward Jordan Davies has picked up where he left off during his second spell at Town following a summer move back to the club.

He is one of the most feared strikers in the division and is sure to have a huge say in proceedings on Saturday. When he is in the mood there are few better at this level than Davies.

A potent presence in the opposition penalty area, Davies has a great instinct of being at the right place at the right time and he is a composed finisher when chances come his way.

What is equally as impressive is his outstanding work rate defending from the front, something that has been a staple of Gibson’s sides over the years.

Davies will have to work hard to continue his excellent run of recent form against a solid Flint defence this weekend, but there is little doubting his credentials at this level and it will be interesting to see how the player gets on next term if the Seasiders’ make a return to the JD Cymru Premier.

Jon Rushton:

The Town goalkeeper has been merely a spectator in the majority of games this season thanks to his side’s incredible goal-scoring exploits, but he may need to earn his keep this weekend against a clinical Flint attack.

Rushton is a very commanding presence and was the final piece in the Town jigsaw after arriving from Connah’s Quay Nomads following their Europa League campaign.

He has proven his worth when called upon and although he was bedded into the side slowly thanks in no small part to the performances of Ryan Woods, Rushton has earned the trust of the manager and his teammates during crucial stages of the season thanks to his consistency and distribution.

The stopper is another that has experience of playing at the very top of the domestic game, and this will bode very well should Town achieve their expected promotion.

Rushton will need to play his part during moments of Saturday’s game, but it is not something he is not more than capable of.
