PRESTATYN Sports were denied a point at the death during a late 1-0 home loss to Greenfield.

The luckless Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One basement dwellers had nothing to show from a much-improved performance against in form opposition at their Gronant base, leaving them without a win in 18 third tier encounters so far this term.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side can take plenty of confidence from their latest outing despite the reverse, with Sports on home soil once again on Saturday when they welcome Penrhyndeudraeth.

A windy encounter emerged into a war of attrition as conditions worsened throughout thanks to the impending arrival of Storm Ciara, which saw both sides fail to muster any significant openings during an evenly matched first period.

This same pattern of play continued after the break, but a dour encounter had a dramatic conclusion as the visitors took away all three points with the final attacking action of the contest.

With the game in its dying moments in second half stoppage time, prolific forward Sam Jones took advantage of some rare space to find the net and ultimately decide the contest.

Following next weekend’s encounter against a good Penryyndeudraeth side, Williams and Hargreaves’ men also take on Nantlle Vale and Llanrug United during the remainder of the month as they look to revive their fortunes.
