PRESTATYN Sports were unable to derail title challengers Denbigh Town during a 4-0 home reverse.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One basement dwellers are still searching for their first win of the season after proving to be no match for Dewi Llion’s in-form side, with Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ men set for another stern test next Saturday during their home encounter against Greenfield.

A strong start from the visitors saw them go ahead on 18 minutes when John Terry’s powerful header from a Danny Clarke corner flew into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side on 32 minutes when they fell further behind thanks to a sensational strike from Jake Walker, who drilled a long-range effort from the edge of the box into the net.

Sports came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the break but were finding things difficult against a formidable Denbigh outfit, who all-but sealed another important three points in their quest for the crown on 77 minutes.

This time it was skipper Mark Roberts who did the damage, latching onto a loose ball before calmly tucking away the opportunity with aplomb.

There was still time for the visitors to rub further salt into the home side’s wounds, with debutant Harry Tattum making an instant impact from the bench by rounding off the scoring a minute of time following another good spell of possession in difficult conditions.

Sports have taken just two points from their 17 league games so far this term, losing six and drawing one of their seven fixtures on home soil at their once formidable Gronant base.
