PRESTATYN Town opened up a 12-point gap at the JD Cymru North summit with a 5-0 win at Buckley Town.

The Seasiders’ managed to secure another three points in their quest for promotion despite missing several senior squad members for their trip to Globe Way.

Neil Gibson’s side face a stern test of their credentials in the JD Welsh Cup fourth round, which sees the all-conquering side make the long trek to take on ambitious Swansea University.

The visitors got off to the best possible start when forward Jordan Davies pounced on a Ben Maher free kick to give Town the lead within the opening minute.

They were frustrated in their attempts to notch a second for the majority of the first period thanks to wasted opportunities and stern resistance from the home defence, which finally relented to the pressure once again on 36 minutes thanks to a fine header from Dan Roberts off a Maher corner.

Zebb Edwards and Davies spurned chances during the opening exchanges of the second half, and Oli Buckley also fluffed his lines on 65 minutes when he was sent through on goal by Ross Weaver.

The away side all-but wrapped up proceedings soon after thanks to prolific striker Jack Kenny, who rounded off an exceptional passing move for Town’s third with 69 on the clock.

Ian Griffiths’ introduction late on gave the visiting attack a fresh injection of energy, and he marked his return to action with a goal when he rounded the keeper in stoppage time before firing into an empty net.

There was still time for the away side to rub further salt into the hosts’ wounds, and it was Griffiths who was once again the beneficiary of a slick passing move with his second of the afternoon with virtually the final action of the game.

Next up for the Seasiders’ are a Swansea University side that are harbouring ambitions of a JD Cymru Premier spot on their own and come into the game on the back of a 2-0 triumph at Undy United.
