DENBIGH TOWN 5

LLANBERIS 0

FIVE-STAR Denbigh Town managed to warm the hearts of their supporters on a bitterly cold November afternoon.

Town saw off the challenge of Llanberis in comfortable fashion to record their highest goal tally of the season and maintain their position at the top of Division One on the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League.

Two goals from Mark Roberts and one apiece from Jake Walker, Dan Clarke and Jacob Barratt saw them overcome a spirited Llanberis team on a Central Park pitch that cut up during the game to make for heavy going for both teams.

Denbigh started well, with Chris Bennett forcing an early corner from which Jake Walker volleyed on the turn just over the crossbar.

Stu Vernon, enjoying his midfield role, sent in a teasing cross that was just too high for Mark Roberts as Denbigh settled into the game.

John Terry pushed forward from his central defensive position for a corner and he was unlucky to see his header go inches over the bar.

Denbigh eventually took the lead on 42 minutes.

Chris Bennett's cross into the box was parried by Llanberis keeper Gethin Wakeman parried and Mark Roberts was on hand to head in from close range.

The second half saw Denbigh step up a gear and this paid dividends with Jake Walker heading in at the far post from a deep cross on 52 minutes to give the Town a two-goal cushion.

Llanberis had their chances too and they were unlucky not to pull one back in a goalmouth scramble in Denbigh’s box, with Paul Fleming coming to the Town’s rescue by clearing off the line.

Three minutes later and Denbigh keeper Antoni Sarnowski pulled of an acrobatic save by tipping the ball over from just underneath his crossbar after a venomous shot from a Llanberis striker.

Denbigh implemented a change of formation soon after with youngsters Jacob Barratt and Dan Clarke replacing the hard working pair of Chris Bennett and Sion Jones.

These changes paid off after 70 minutes when Mark Roberts got his second goal after his fierce shot hit the post and rebounded out for him to knock in.

With Billy Holmes replacing Jake Walker on 80 minutes, Denbigh’s fresh legs were able to keep the momentum going.

Dan Clarke made it four-nil with a great finish on 82 minutes and then in injury time, Clarke turned provider.

He went on a strong run down the left wing to cross for an unmarked Jacob Barratt to fire in from close range and claim his first goal in a Denbigh shirt.
