LLANNEFYDD 1

GUILSFIELD 5

THE performance of Chris Cathrall proved to be key as Llannefydd's brilliant run in this season's JD Welsh Cup came to a halt.

In the biggest game in Llannefydd's history, the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League outfit played host to JD Cymru North Guilsfield in the second round on Saturday.

The tie was still in the balance at the interval, with the scoreline level at one-apiece.

However, Guilsfield went clear in the second half to ultimately record a 5-1 triumph, aided by a four-goal haul from Chris Cathrall.

Due to the wintry conditions on Saturday morning, a pitch inspection was required to make sure that the tie could go ahead.

A 10am pitch inspection passed the pitch fit for the contest.

Llannefydd were up for the tie from the off and they made life difficult for their higher league opponents.

However, it was Guilsfield who would claim the lead in the 29th minute.

Chris Cathrall got on the end of a knock down from veteran Danny Barton to fire home.

Llannefydd continued to battle away and they brilliantly levelled things up a minute shy of the interval.

Guilsfield failed to cope with a corner and Brad Jones rose highest to head in the equaliser.

The second half would belong to the visitors, though, and they regained their advantage on 56 minutes with George Clifton on target.

Chris Cathrall bagged a further three goals to add to his first half strike, including a last minute diving header to conclude the scoring.
