PENMAENMAWR Phoenix continue to rise up the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two standings with a 5-3 home victory over Amlwch Town.

The in-form side secured another important three points despite not being at their best, and they are now sitting in second position ahead of a pivotal clash at Llandudno Amateurs on Friday night.

Manager Martyn Jones, said: “We weren’t at our best and were really sloppy at times, but to win 5-3 while not playing how we’d like to shows the standards we have set this season.

“I have to give credit to the lads though they stuck at it and showed great determination to get the three points.

“Dan (Williams) and Alfie (Caldecott) worked really hard up front and deserved the two goals they got each.

“Spirits are high at the minute, which is healthy, we will look to go again on Friday with a tough away fixture at Llandudno Amateurs.”

The home side managed to cope with the conditions fairly well throughout and would have won by a more comfortable margin had it not been for some hesitant defending at key moments that kept Town well in the contest.

The strike duo of Dan Williams and Alfie Caldecott were in ruthless mood once again, helping themselves to a pair of efforts apiece to lead their side to glory.

Jones’ men are now one point behind league-leading Gaerwen and level with Y Felinheli having played more games than their championship rivals.
