PRESTATYN Town advanced to the JD Welsh Cup second round with a 4-1 win at Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

The Seasiders’ were handed a golden chance to break the deadlock on seven minutes in the form of another penalty, which midfielder Rob Hughes converted to open the scoring.

Jordan Davies rattled the bar with an attempt on eight minutes during a spell of dominance, but the hosts gradually imposed themselves on proceedings and levelled matters on 35 when a stunning free kick from Iwan Matthews found its way into the net.

This joy proved to be short lived as the visitors were given their second penalty of the tie on 41 minutes after Alex Jones was adjudged to have been felled in the box, and Hughes held his nerve to secure his brace and put his side ahead once again.

After the break saw the away side double their advantage on 46 minutes when James Stead hit the target after good work from Danny Davies, and they rounded off the scoring on 66 when Jack Kenny prodded home a rebound from close range after Jack Higgins’ effort came back off the crossbar to book their place in the hat.

The runaway JD Cymru North leaders now enjoy a free weekend before looking to extend their incredible recent run of results during their home clash with Llanrhaeadr on November 2.
